Application Area and Main Purpose

It is applied for the pre-treatment of seawater used in industrial cooling systems (Sea Water Intake) and in desalination plants where freshwater is produced from seawater. The goal is to retain the high biological load in seawater—such as organisms, algae and sand—in order to protect Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes and other sensitive equipment.

Critical Importance of Filtration and Hydraulic Control

Seawater is one of the most challenging water sources due to its high corrosion risk and variable biological contamination. According to field studies by the IDA (International Desalination Association), biological fouling caused by insufficient pre-filtration increases the frequency of chemical cleaning (CIP) cycles by up to 50% and multiplies energy costs by increasing operating pressure. Corrosion-resistant filtration and dynamic pressure management are the most critical factors determining the operational lifetime of the facility.

Advantage of Aytok’s Wide Product Range

Aytok offers one of the most comprehensive ranges of corrosion-resistant filters and valves specifically designed for the demanding conditions of seawater. Our body material options resistant to the corrosive effects of saltwater and our high-capacity models suitable for large-scale projects provide reliable and long-lasting system protection even under the most aggressive water parameters.

Our Industrial Applications

  • Desalination Plants: Pre-filtration processes for desalination and RO membrane protection.
  • Coastal Power Plants: Filtration applications for cooling systems using sea water intake.
  • Marine and Offshore: Filtration systems for onboard ship systems, ballast water applications and offshore platforms.
  • Aquaculture (Fish Farms): Seawater circulation and filtration management.
  • Coastal Industrial Facilities: Filtration applications in heavy industry facilities using seawater as process water.
